Classic tracks, Classy Drivers

Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese will once again race around there old hunting grounds of Silverstone and Monza respectively. Whilst for Mansell racing at his home crowd will have obvious appeal, it is likely that racing in front of the ‘tifosi’ will also bring back some special memories. Mansell was able to win his home Grand prix at Silverstone 3 times in 1987, 91 and 92. Mansell was also able to win the Italian Grand Prix in 1991 just one year a leaving Scuderia Ferrari.

Mansell was quoted saying “I for one cannot wait to get back into action! For me personally, the special one will of course be Silverstone. Racing a thoroughbred grand prix car in-front of a home crowd at Silverstone will be a surreal and mighty experience. My last grand prix race there was back in 1992 and was one of many victories that season that culminated in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championship. Racing in front of the Italian ‘tifosi’ will also be very special for me and if we can deliver anything like the spectacle we succeeded in doing in South Africa, the fan’s will absolutely love it.”

For Riccardo Patrese this a special chance to try and make up for a racing enigma. Patrese has never been able  to win atMonza. His best result was in 1984 driving the Benetton Team Alfa Romeo when he came 3rd to the winner Niki Lauda in the Mclaren and 2nd place man Michele Albereto in the Ferrari. When asked about his bad luck at Monza Patrese responded “This list is all bad events! Don't forget that I won the 1976 Monza Lotteria Formula 3 race which was very important, and one of my happiest memories in racing.”

We will have to wait till June 18th to see who will come out the winner and lets not forget that this is more than Just a two horse race.
