December 2005: Here at GPMO we are having a great Christmas. However, work must go on and whilst the official track list hasn’t been released yet it seems likely the race series will start in Doha around the beginning of March. So for all your benefit we have put together some interesting information on the Losail Circuit and Doha itself.
This incredible facility was opened in 2004 and around $58 million was spent building the state of the art circuit. Recently the circuit has been home to the Qatar MotoGP and has
proven to be very popular. The 10 right corners and 6 left corners along with its 1.068 km start and finish straight offers fans and drivers a great racing spectacle. The track is 5.4 km in length and laps travel in a clockwise direction. Losail is located in the desert and the weather in Qatar can average around 40 Deg C which makes this track one of the hottest in the world.
Qatar is experiencing massive growth. Oil account for more than 30% of GDP with an oil reserve of over 23 years. In its past Qatar was a British protectorate until 1971 when Britain decided to withdraw from the Arabian Gulf area. Qatar then adopted a provisional constitution declaring it an independent Arab country with an official religion of Islam, using Shari’ah as the prime source of legislation and Arabic as an official language. These days Qatar is quickly becoming a tourist haven for the savvy traveler.
For those who are thinking of traveling to Qatar for the Grand Prix Masters Race GPMO has put together some information to help you make your stay in Qatar unforgettable.
